“Piccolo” Fifes

SKU: N/A Category:

Description

These are smaller, thus higher pitched, fifes designed for more of a folk music use over the fife & drum association. We typically offer them in the keys of Eb, D, C#, and C and have conical bores, rendering them more in tune with themselves than a traditional cylindrical bore would. The usual wood choices are Honduras rosewood and in African blackwood, rarely Granadillo (a wood similar to mahogony in colour, but otherwise little different to Rosewood), but some people select mopane as an alternative – similar in colour to the rosewood.  In all cases, these are commonly made to order rather than stocked, simply because of varying choices of wood by myriad customers.

These are available in 10-hole/chromatic versions. Please inquire before ordering.

Jos! I received my fife in B Major today! Oh my Lord. How beautiful ! Thank you so much for being an artist who makes such beautiful instruments . The world is better for your being in it! And thank you for taking the time to include that fingering chart for the E major pentatonic scale I mentioned that I needed to play my melody .

Ya know, I have never played a fife before in my life. I did play clarinet and saxophone as a kid and I had one half semester when I was 13 where I actually played flute in school for a bit. So from my childhood I had some idea about how to blow and have a controlled embouchure . That was many years ago!  I love this instrument and I know this is now a part of me thats here to stay.  Such an expressive instrument !
